In today’s world, creating certain web pages can be a complex and laborious task for those who are not programming experts. However, Microsoft has introduced an innovative solution to ease this burden: Copilot in Power Pages. This artificial intelligence (AI) assisted tool is designed to be the co-pilot for website builders, providing them with real-time assistance in the design and development process.
Copilot in Power Pages: The perfect copilot for web designers
Microsoft has released a preview version for US customers Copilot in Power Pages, an AI-powered assistant for your low-code website builder tool, Power Pages. With just a few prompts, Copilot can generate text, forms, chatbots, web page layouts, and even create and edit image themes and site design.
The way to use Copilot is really simple. Users only need to describe the type of form they need and Copilot will take care of building it and automatically generating the necessary database tables. These tables can be edited, added, or removed using natural language within Copilot.
Although AI-powered website generation is not something new these days, Microsoft highlights Copilot’s versatility compared to other similar solutions. It’s important to note that Copilot in Power Pages is not a full site builder tool, but rather an intelligent assistant for website builders. Through natural language, designers can ask for suggestions on how to build different components of a business data-centric site.
Safeguards for secure and controlled web development
Incorporating AI into the website development process can pose certain risks depending on the domain and use case. However, Sangya Singh, VP of Power Pages at Microsoft, says that Copilot in Power Pages has “security measures” in place to guard against issues that may arise.
Singh explains that multiple processing, such as offensive content filtering, is performed before the suggestions generated by Copilot are displayed. If the suggestions turn out to be irrelevant or inappropriate, website creators can report the AI-generated content by giving them a thumbs-down gesture and providing additional feedback.
An intelligent chatbot for your website
In addition to the aforementioned functionalities, Power Pages users can now embed a chatbot on their websites. This chatbot, also powered by OpenAI’s GPT-3.5 model, is designed with additional safeguards, including a whitelist of URLs through which it searches for answers.
Importantly, despite the help provided by Copilot and the chatbot, Microsoft gives website builders “full control” over their project. Designers are free to accept, modify, or discard AI-generated suggestions based on their needs and preferences.
