EFE.- The US Justice on Tuesday filed criminal charges against a former Apple employee for stealing autonomous vehicle technology developed by the company to deliver it to a Chinese company.
The Justice Department announced the indictment of Weibao Wang, 35, for theft and attempted theft of trade secrets in connection with a scheme to access, download and steal Apple technology related to autonomous vehicle systems.
According to the court document, Wang worked as a software engineer at the California-based company from 2016 to 2018, during which time he had access to databases accessible to only 2,700 employees across the company, which has more than 130,000 workers on its staff.

Investigators reviewed Wang’s Apple network history a day after the man left the company and found that he had accessed “large amounts” of confidential information “in the days prior to his departure” from the company.
“Unfortunately, there will always be those who cheat the system by stealing and profiting from the fruits of the labor of others. Wang’s indictment is just one example,” prosecutor Ismail Ramsey said in a Justice Department statement.
If found guilty, Wang faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each count of robbery or attempted robbery, the statement said.
