Crime in New York has increased considerably, and that is why both the police and the mayor announced a new fleet of robots that will not only patrol the streets, but also the city’s subway.
He announcement made last Tuesday in Times Square, presented this new fleet of robotsand some known because they are variations of others that we have seen before.
The most striking is the autonomous security robot K5 and the system Star Chase GPS capable of monitoring people and vehicles.
Despite the fact that robots were born to safeguard the lives of citizens in the face of the increase in crime in New York, many believe that more should be invested in libraries and schools “and not expensive toys for the NYPD”.

The first robot to be available will be the security one autonomous K5 that has artificial intelligence to provide incident notifications in real time.
It is an egg-shaped machine equipped with microphones, a camera and sensors. This robot makes use of autonomous driving technology, measures approximately 1.67 cm and weighs 180 kilos.
“The K5 has been used by law enforcement agencies including the Huntington Park Police, college campuses across the country, corporations, shopping malls, and other places where security was needed and additional crime deterrents were needed.”, they affirm.
At the moment, this robot is being tested by the New York police, and it will start touring Times Square and the subway stations in June or July.

On the other hand, the StarChase GPS tracking device comes in two forms: in portable devices or in vehicle-mounted devices.
The final machine is a dog robot of 30 kilos with remote control, which is going to be deployed only in risky situations, confrontations with criminals or hostage rescues, and will be available starting this summer.
This robot has already been criticized before, even withdrawn from the New York police, but it returns, we’ll see if with some modification, for this summer.
