McDonald’s in China is celebrating the fortieth anniversary of the McNuggets with a portable gaming device a Tetris in the shape of a nuggets of chicken. The device costs around 30 yuan ($4.2 USD) and launched on May 24 in mainland China. According to those who have gotten their hands on one of these devices, it comes in a themed box of McNuggets and includes a carry bag.
The device itself, as we mentioned, has the shape of a nuggets of chicken in this fast chain and features arrows that allow you to move the Tetris pieces left and right, as well as release them faster. There is also a button that allows you to rotate them, but apparently only in one direction. As far as we can tell you, there doesn’t seem to be a way to ‘hold’ a piece like there is in most modern versions of Tetris.
At first, some people thought that this new device was not an officially licensed Tetris product, but shared photos of those who bought one, show that the Chinese subsidiary of this fast food chain did pay to use the brand of this video game franchise. This makes sense, as the game features a restaurants logo prominently placed in the corner of the screen.
However, the bad news is that this strange device seems to be something exclusive to the Chinese market. At this time there do not appear to be any plans to bring the equipment to other countries. And, according to some fine print on the official McDonald’s China website, 400,000 of these individuals will be made available gadgets.
