GoDaddy has just published its GoDaddy Digitalization Observatory 2023 report in which it analyzes the current state of small businesses internationally, including Spain, with the first set of results focusing on how entrepreneurs and small business owners manage their business. The survey has revealed that 65% of Spanish entrepreneurs use a website, an online store, an e-commerce platform or a combination of them as their main sales channel, compared to 61% globally.
Spanish businessmen are one step ahead
37% of small Spanish companies have launched their business in the last five years. On the contrary, 32% took their first steps more than a decade ago, surpassing the figures for Germany (29%) and Colombia (19%). Once the small business is created, the first steps that an entrepreneur usually takes to make it known are to establish a presence on the Internet; open profiles on social networks for the business (38%), create a company logo (35%) and launch a website (34%). According to the survey data, nine out of 10 Spanish companies have been in the market for more than a year, exceeding the rate in the United States (6%).
58% of the small Spanish companies surveyed consider the development of new products and services crucial
GoDaddy’s study has revealed that entrepreneurs are aware of the importance of having an Internet presence. In Spain, 29% of the small Spanish companies surveyed state that they generate more than 50% of their income on the Internet. Showcasing a website represents the core of a small business’ marketing strategy.
The study shows that for a small business to thrive on the Internet it is very important to have a solid online presence with tools that complement each other online and offline. In addition to the 38% of the Spanish businessmen surveyed who claim to open profiles on social networks as an initial step to publicize their business, 38% currently advertise online, 36% contact potential customers by phone, 29% offer discounts and promotions, and 23% advertise on physical channels.
When it comes to promoting a small business, Spanish respondents state that it is very important to make the brand known (62%), and get new customers (75%). In line with the global trend, nine out of 10 small companies surveyed believe that it is important to optimize costs and processes, and implement technology.
Looking to the future, 58% of the small Spanish companies surveyed consider the development of new products and services crucial. Other countries that also emphasize this aspect are Colombia (77%), Mexico (76%), the Philippines (73%) and India (72%); while the United States (45%) and Germany (35%) give it less importance. In addition, one in two small Spanish companies believes that it is very important to obtain financing for their business, which is 16 percentage points more than the German respondents…
