(CNN Radio Argentina) — Juan Marenco, CEO of Be Influencers, shared this Wednesday in CNN Radio his perspective on the growth of social networks and their influence on the mental health of users. In particular, he highlighted the popularity of TikTok and Instagram, and how these platforms affect the way we consume content and interact online.
In CNN return of Federico Seeber, held that TikTok has managed to establish itself as a unique entertainment medium, where the app’s algorithm determines what content is shown to users, creating a “digital zapping” experience tailored to their interests. However, he also noted that this dynamic can lead people to spend long hours inside the app, feeling trapped in its virtual world.
“TikTok has three times the amount of usage time compared to other apps like Instagram. While on Instagram people can spend around half an hour, on TikTok they can spend up to an hour and a half,” Marenco said.
The expert also highlighted that many times social networks are used as a way to pass the time without having to reflect too much.
Regarding social networks and mental health, he said: “The digital world forces you to be with filters all the time and aesthetically beautiful. Instagram brought a lot of the beauty filter and it is very typical of that platform. In Tik Tok there is something of that, but it comes to bring something more related to the bodies and the normal”.
On the other hand, the CEO referred to the digital advertising by influencers and said: “What one should require from communication with influencers is that it comply with the same regulations that any other advertising from a media outlet complies with.”
