The president of the Royal Recreational Tennis Club of HuelvaRafael Romero, and the Executive President of SeaberyBasilio Marquínez, have renewed the collaboration agreement between both entities, placing the technology company as the main private sponsor of the 98th edition of the Cup of SM The King of Tennis.
The initiative is contemplated within the plan of social responsability of the company from Huelva, supporting a sporting event that represents the values, tradition and continued effort to project the image of Huelva through one of the oldest tennis tournaments in the world.
The 98th edition of the Copa del Rey will be held from July 12 to 14 and will have a luxury poster, as well as a historical landmark what is it like to have for the first time female competition. The Spanish Paula Badosa will try to make history by winning the title against the Swiss Jil Teichmann (SUI), while the men’s draw will be led by the sixth world player, Andrey Rublev (UK), who will have to face Borna Coric (ATP no. 16. CRO ), Pablo Andújar (ESP) and Fernando Verdasco (ESP).
The history of the most traditional tennis tournament in Spain dates back to 1912, when HM King Alfonso XIII donated a silver cup to the dean of Spanish tennis. Since then, 97 editions have been held, barely interrupted in times of war. Almost a hundred tennis players have inscribed their names on the base of the emblematic trophy, from the first British amateurs who settled in Huelva at the beginning of the 20th century, to the best players in the world such as Rafael Nadal, Carlos Moyá, David Ferrer, Guillermo Coria, Emilio Sanchéz Vicario, Albert Costa, Alex Corretja, Tommy Robredo and Alejandro Davidovich, current champion after beating world number one Carlos Alcaraz just eleven months ago on the center court of the Recreativo de Tenis de Huelva.
A story full of successes and also difficult moments in which the help of sponsors has always been essential to maintain this symbol of Huelva’s identity.
