Pebble’s return could be in the form of a small smartphone

If you like technology and smartwatches have always been your weakness, surely the Pebble brand sounds familiar to you. It is even possible that for a while you wore one of its flagship products on your wrist giving you the time, steps and heart rate.

Pebble’s story is very curious, as you will remember. Hence today’s news is so beautiful: it seems that Pebble could return. Now not as a smart watch, but as a small Android phone.

Last year, Pebble founder Eric Migicovsky announced that he wanted to create a small Android phone that could compete with the iPhone mini. Then, the founder of the company detailed what would include the compact phone of his dreams.

Now in a recent interview with The VergeMigicovsky shared some facts about the project. According to account, the ad has become a community project with a team -which is not yet a company- who works to design and produce the phone.

What we know about Pebble’s smartphone so far

The team is made up of a group of professionals from different fields of the industry. Apparently, the team is trying to find a screen, choose a chip and choose the design of the terminal.

At the camera level, the group is trying to target a phone that can take good photos., (meaning this whatever it means). Therefore, they will not use 100 Mpx cameras, but will opt for reliable 50 Mpx sensors.

For the second half of the picture equation, Bryant says they have “a couple of clues” about camera software that will allow them to compete, but they might end up developing their own software.

As for the SoC, it sounds like they want something capable, but not necessarily top-tier. According to Bryant, the team is considering last year’s Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 or a mid-range chip yet to be released (the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2?).

Finally, regarding the screen, it seems that the group is still trying to find the right one. Bryant says it’s been hard to find a screen smaller than six inches.

Regarding the cost, could be priced at 800 euros due to production size and other factors. However, Bryant says the price depends on negotiations with the manufacturer and how many people sign up to buy the phone at his Web.
