Oasis broke up in 2009 and since then its two leaders, the Gallagher brothers (Liam, the vocalist, and Noel, the guitarist and composer) have staged a crossroads of accusations and insults always watered by that beastly humor that these English musicians spend. Precisely, in recent times it is when specialists point out that the return may be close. The messages, always through the press or social networks, have softened and some even suggest that there are already contacts. Meanwhile, artificial intelligence (AI) has gotten ahead of them.
“We’re bored waiting for Oasis to reform, so we’ve written some songs inspired by the early Oasis. The only thing that is not ours is Liam Gallagher’s voice, which is created by artificial intelligence.” Those who speak to this newspaper are the members of a band called Breezer, the protagonists of this story. This group from the town of Hastings, southern England, has composed some songs in the style of the first Oasis and then they have added the voice of Liam Gallagher by IA. The result is so amazing that, in keeping with the joke, they are announcing it as The Lost Tapes (The lost tapes), as if it were material from the Manchester group itself that was never released.
“We’ve been working on songs since 2013. Our friends were constantly telling us to do something with them, so we formed a band in 2021. We did a handful of shows but it never took off and we called it quits. When the AI thing came up, it made us think how cool it would be to have Liam Gallagher sing our songs because we always thought that what we wrote as Breezer sounded a lot like Oasis. So Bobby, our singer, trained an AI model with Liam’s voice.”
Breezer’s fun action is having a good response from listeners, some Oasis fans. “This is amazing. It’s like Liam magically rejuvenates and reforms Oasis with Noel,” says one. The rest points along these lines: “Impressed with the songs and the AI that replicates Liam’s voice. I like this a lot better than the Liam and Noel solo albums”; “I can’t believe how good this is. We want more songs.” And there will be, because the group announces a Volume 2 shortly.
This first batch is made up of eight songs, with titles such as Out Of My Mind, Forever, Alive either Tonight. The rock sound refers to the first records of the Manchester band, the best: Definitely Maybe (1994), (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? (1995) and Be Here Now (1997). The voice that emerges from the use of this technological tool sounds aggressive, dragged and cocky, like the best Liam. The group has called the project Aisis.
“Aisis is an alternate reality concept album imagining that Oasis had continued to write music. Or maybe they all got together years later to write a record similar to the first three albums,” Breezer wrote on YouTube, where they posted all eight songs.
This initiative to influence music through AI joins that of a song that has emerged with this tool and that has brought together Drake and The Weeknd. Heart on My Sleeve, which is the name of the theme, is the creation of an anonymous music producer who has generated the voices of the two stars by AI. The theme was published on TikTok and went viral until it reached 15 million views. It was also published on Spotify, where it has added 600,000 listeners. Until Universal Music, the record company that manages some of the rights of the two singers, decided to denounce the song and it was removed from the platforms.
