Netflix tried this weekend broadcast live the meeting of love is blind (Love is blind), one of his reality shows most popular in the United States. The experiment could not have gone worse. started with 75 minute late… technical problems arose… AND ended up canceling itto the despair of his fans.
A few years ago, Netflix presumed to be the great savior that would free us from worst of tv: the abusive publicity that cut the series and movies in half, the trash TV, etc.
A decade later, Netflix embraces everything it despised, in a desperate attempt to attract new subscribers. Your ad-supported plan is here, cutting the series and movies in half, while the price of ad-free plans has risen. Repeatedly.
Reality shows and other content of debatable quality (also unpalatable movies and series) are broadcast shamelessly. And now they want to go back 20 years with the live broadcasts of reality showsin the purest Big Brother style.
Love is blind… and broadcast too
Netflix was going to broadcast live this weekend Love is Blind Live Reunion, a reality show where very beautiful people look for a partner. Apparently, at the end of the season the couples that have formed meet and tell their experiences.
It is one of the chapters most awaited by fans, so Netflix was encouraged by a live broadcast of the event. But things did not go as expected.
Something must have happened to the program in question, because the broadcast was delayed… 75 minutes! When it finally started… there were failures and cuts in the streaming. halfway through, Netflix cut to the chase, leaving fans with honey on their lips. Finally broadcast the meeting on deferred, hours later.
This is the apology tweet, where it does not explain what happened:
The tweet reads: “To all of you who stayed up late, woke up early, gave up your Sunday afternoon… We are so sorry that Love is Blind Live Reunion did not turn out as planned. We are filming it now and will have it on Netflix as soon as humanly possible. Thanks again and sorry“.
We do not know if it was all due to a technical problemor the difficulty of record a live reality show. Ironically, these types of shows are sold to us as something natural or “realistic”, when they are completely scripted products.
It’s also fair to say that the previous live broadcast, a special from comedian Chris Rock (yes, the one about the Will Smith slap), went off without a hitch.
Whatever the reasons, we hope that Netflix leave the live broadcasts for special events, and don’t make it a norm: we’ve gotten used to seeing content when we want and when we feel like it, and we don’t want to go back to the slavery of schedules.
The live broadcast of Love is Blind Live ReunionIt ended in disaster. Netflix returns to the television of the past to try to recover the path of success, now that it is no longer the most watched platform. We don’t think it’s the way to go.
