The new technologies are present in the day to day of the majority of people, becoming essential tools both in social relationships and in the field of studies and work, but it is in the latter where more than half of Spaniards (56%) consider that the impact is negative or very negative.
Among the most notorious new technologies, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the one that Spaniards “trust” the mostsince it is capable of generating positive emotions and expectations in 66 percent of those surveyed.
This is shown by the data collected by the study ‘Feel IT: I Evercom Study of technological perception’, carried out by the communication and marketing agency Evercom together with the company Appinio, in which it collects what Spanish citizens think about new technologies and the information that is offered about them.
Specifically, the report analyzes the opinions of Spaniards regarding AI, the metaverse, cryptocurrencies and big data analytics, four of the new technologies that have the most “disruptive potential” in the short and medium term.
In this sense, the study indicates that practically eight out of every ten Spaniards surveyed have positive expectations about the impact that new technologies will have on their lives. A much higher figure than users who feel indifference towards them (7.3%) or even fear or rejection of new technologies (4%).
AI GENERATES POSITIVE EMOTIONS
AI is positioned as the only one that generates positive emotions in more than half of Spaniards, specifically in 66 percent. It is followed by the metaverse, with 49.7 percent, and big data analytics, with 45 percent.
As to cryptocurrencies, are in last place, with 39.5 percent. In fact, cryptocurrencies, such as bitcoin, are valued as those that “more fear or rejection” cause among the new technologies included in the study.
Following this line, when asked what type of technology they believe will have the most positive impact on their lives, AI is also the favorite (56.5%). However, cryptocurrencies are positioned in second place, with 16 percent.
In the case of cryptocurrencies, this is a striking fact because, although they are classified as the ones that cause “the most fear”, the results of the study also place them in second position among the technologies that will have a positive impact on the lives of citizens in the future.
In part, the good perception of AI is due to the fact that it is the technology that the Spanish consider as more realistic (56.6%), since they believe that it is currently meeting the expectations it promises and that it will continue to meet them in the near future.
On the contrary, cryptocurrencies are the worst valued technology in terms of meeting the expectations it promises. So much so that technology is considered with expectations “more exaggerated” for 35 percent of the Spanish surveyed.
53.9% CONSIDER THE IMPACT ON EMPLOYMENT AS NEGATIVE
However, the positive perception of new technologies changes when it comes to how they affect the work environment. More than half of Spaniards (53.9%) consider that it affects the workplace in a “negative or very negative” way, since it causes the elimination of jobs and the precariousness of some types of employment.
Compared to this figure, only 17.7 percent consider the impact of technologies “positive or very positive” at work and, on the other hand, 28.5 percent of those surveyed think that the impact is neutral, that is to say, that the new technologies create as many jobs as they are destroyed.
Other problems caused by new technologies, which concern 28.3 percent of those surveyed are dehumanization that generates in society and inequality (12%).
TECHNOLOGY IN YOUNG PEOPLE
Regarding how users evaluate the disruption of new technologies in human connections and communication, 47 percent of Spaniards believe that the impact of technology is “negative or very negative”, since it complicates relationships between users and distance to the peopleaccording to the study.
On the other hand, the impact of these technologies on users has also been analyzed. younger, where the balance has turned out to be more optimistic. Specifically, 43.1 percent of those surveyed say that the impact is positive. This is because they consider that makes everyday life easier and presents “new opportunities” for your future.
However, 41.6 percent consider that it is affecting in a “very negative” way because it generates problems that young people cannot currently solve since “they are not prepared”.
THE GREAT TECHNOLOGIES
New technologies are led by the big technology companies that develop and control them. In this framework, some such as Google, Amazon, Microsoft or Apple stand out, and users have also shared their opinion about them in this Evercom study.
About, 36.2 percent of respondents have expressed that the reputation of these tech companies has improved. On the contrary, 17.7 percent have stated that their reputation has worsened. The rest consider that they have maintained the same perception.
Likewise, the Spanish have admitted that one of the fears that these companies suggest to them is the power they have to intrude on your privacy (24%), as they feel they have lost the ability to manage their privacy.
Likewise, 22.3 percent of those surveyed are also concerned about the domain and authority that these companies have achieved. Following this line, they are also uneasy about issues such as harmful business practices for the user, obsolescence or the negative impact on mental health.
Despite all this, three quarters of Spanish respondents acknowledge that what they value most about these technology companies is their ability to improve their day-to-day activities. In fact, thanks to the new technologies provided by these companies, users stress that they have communication alternatives, easier work management, and even more free time.
Likewise, 34.5 percent indicate that they have achieved a greater capacity for innovation thanks to new technologiesand 13.3 percent who have managed to create qualified jobs.
ENTREPRENEURS THE MOST OPTIMISTIC
Among the Spaniards surveyed, businessmen are the ones with the best perception of new technologies and it coincides that AI and big data analysis are the most valued technologies (77.7% and 69.7%, respectively).
However, they also share concerns, 23.1 percent consider the cost of digitization projects in their organizations high and worry about dehumanization in the work environment.
