The latest optional update to Windows 11 brings useful bug fixes and what could be one of Microsoft’s most controversial moves towards an operating system.
The feature is described as “notifications for Microsoft accounts” that appears in the start menu and hides a hidden power.
In the supporting document that accompanies the patch KB5023778 for Windows 11 22H2which is currently only on the preview channel and will be released next month for all users, Microsoft gives an example notification.
We are talking one-panel in a pop-up alert format informing the user that they need to make a backup copy of their files. Although, clearly, it is a location and format in which we could see other types of content.
As advice, in that case described is useful, and as reminder it’s ok to have such a backup policy and launching the process from that same message is very convenient and simple.
There are already users showing how does it work this functionality on Twitter. Microsoft has commented that at the moment it is only available for some users and that depending on the device it could have a different appearance.
For now, they are recommendations about your own servicesAlthough of course, the user could have any other backup service, for example, Google Drive.
Future and not so interesting options for the user
At the moment it is only an optional update and has only been released to a small test. In fact, this shows that Microsoft is concerned about the possible response.
We may not see those announcements or reminders, as Microsoft calls it, it could be occasional things, in fact, it is not known where the line will be between recommendations and suggestions. This makes it possible for Microsoft to announce its own products in this new space.
Time will tell us, but it is clear that these suggestions would be a big change for windows 11, or maybe they keep the ace up their sleeve for Windows 12. We have also seen recommendations for websites to visit as future possibilities, which would also fall in the field of advertising.
