Despite the closure of zoos in different parts of the world, there are still some 6 million animals that live in captivity with the aim of providing entertainment for humans. In any of these facilities, the different species live in conditions very different from those provided by the natural environment. Both the frustration and the loss of freedom that captivity generates lead to genetic, physical, and behavioral degeneration.
To replace these spaces and stop exercising different methods of torture on animal species, the company lucatia has designed the Metapark ZOO, a project of augmented reality what do you propose a visit to a zoo with virtual tools. In this park, wild animals are digitally recreated in a real environment. It is a new way of Know different species of animals that constitutes an ethical alternative to captivity.
Where is it and what are the routes offered by Metapark ZOO de Lucatia?
Augmented reality technology requires the use of mobile devices such as phones, glasses or tablets to be able to see digitally created designs that unfold and interact with a real environment. Metapark ZOO has facilities in the Montnegre i el Corredor Park, located in the Catalan coastal mountain range, between the Maresme and Vallés Oriental regions.
This nature reserve stands out for its pine, cork, oak and holm oak forests. Species such as wild horses, foxes, wild boars, badgers and roe deer inhabit this park naturally. In turn, the estate on which the Metapark ZOO is located has 190 hectares and a 14th century farmhouse built with stone.
This property currently offers two tours. The first of them can be done on foot and includes watching, with the help of a mobile application, local fauna and flora. Instead, the second tour is carried out in special motorized vehicles. During it, it is necessary to use AR glasses to be able to observe different species of wild animals.
Copito is the star of the Metapark ZOO
Snowflake was an albino gorilla who lived in the Barcelona Zoo, being its main attraction for more than 30 years. This animal, dead 19 years ago, has been recreated with the hyper-realistic 3D modeling technology used by Lucatia. Then, using GPS tracking and 5G technology, these designs are anchored on reference points located in the actual park. This type of development is similar to that used by large companies such as Disney or Pixar to create their animated characters.
The Lucatia Metapark ZOO, based on augmented reality technology, offers an immersive experience and provides a new way of learning about the natural behavior of different wild animals.
