It is no secret that the information and communications technology sector is experiencing unprecedented growth across the planet and, therefore, The world of work demands more and more profiles with digital skills.
Under this premise, the technological giant Google has a flexible online training program that, at the moment, offers 12,500 scholarships so that people from all over the country interested in learning and certifying themselves in said digital skills can do so totally free.

This is Crece con Google, an initiative that offers, online through the Coursera platform, four programs (Google Career Certificates) focused on the area of technology and with which it is sought that students acquire “professional skills with high demand and potential for growth”.
“According to the Colombian Chamber of Informatics and Telecommunications (CCIT), The ICT sector (information and communication technologies) in Colombia creates more than 370,000 jobs per year and it is estimated that for each one of them, 3.6 more are generated in other sectors”, quotes Colnodo, an association that supports the Google initiative.
The same organization cites figures from the Fedesoft IT Observatory and the ICT Ministry, according to which, “the talent gap in the IT sector is expected to widen to 200,000 vacancies in the coming years.”

For these Crece con Google scholarships low-income people will be prioritized (strata 1 to 3), young people without access to professional titles, low income women and people belonging to ethnic communities.
“Of the total scholarships awarded, 50% (6,250) will go to low-income women, and 10% (1,250) to people from ethnic communities in the country, including Afro-Colombians, indigenous people, Roma and Palenque,” Google specified.

- Enter to this link and find out key information about the call, such as the requirements to participate and what are the four Google Career Certificates offered.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the ‘Apply’ button.
- Enter your identification document number and click the ‘Verify’ box
- Fill in the data requested by the form, accept the ‘Privacy notice and data processing policies’ and press the ‘Publish’ button.
- If you meet the requirements and you are selected, in the coming days you will be informed, via email, of the steps to follow to activate your course on the Coursera platform.
Upon being selected, you will start with one of the four available certifications (the one of your choice) and, if you wish, you can continue with the other 3 programs included in the offer.
Keep in mind that dYou must actively participate in the courses that make up the certificate you selectedbecause if you do not do it for two consecutive weeks you will not be able to continue taking advantage of the scholarship and the place will be reassigned to another person.

What are the requirements to apply for the scholarships?
- Have a high availability of time and perseverance. It is necessary to dedicate approximately 10 hours a week for 6 months (for each program or certification).
- Be between 18 and 35 years of age.
- Have a history of secondary education, even if it has not been completed in its entirety.
- Live in an area with socioeconomic stratum 1, 2 or 3.
- Have access to computer equipment and internet connection.
- Commitment to acquire at least one of the four available certificates and desire to strengthen professional skills to improve job opportunities.
- It is not necessary to have previous training or experience in the area of programs.
Google Scholarships: programs offered in the 2023 call
Each of the four available Google Career Certificates is made up of a set number of courses (between 5 and 8), which are further divided into modules. Next, the list with those four available programs, among which you choose one to start with and have the opportunity to do the other three (consecutively) if you wish.
According to Colnodo, when you complete each program you get a certificate that you can share with your professional network, as well as access to professional support resources that can be very useful to expand your opportunities in the world of work.
