Thanks to its new satellite, the THAT posted spectacular high-resolution images of Earth. He Meteosat Third Generation Imager, Launched in December 2022, it recently entered work.

This satellite, explains the European Space Agency (ESA), is the first of a new generation of devices that will improve weather forecasts in the Old Continent.

Although the first great image of the Earth was captured on March 18, it was only made public in May. It shows much of northern and western Europe, with the Scandinavian countries shrouded in clouds and clear skies over Italy and the Balkans.

Simonetta Chelli, ESA Director of Earth Observation Programs, spoke about the importance of the Meteosat Third Generation Imager and the quality of the image.

“It is an example of what European cooperation in space can achieve,” said Cheli. “The level of detail revealed by the MTG-1 image, unattainable so far in Europe and Africa from a geostationary orbit, It will give us a greater understanding of our planet and the weather systems that shape it.”

For Cheli, the photo of the Earth “represents not only what can be achieved through the European experience, but also our determination to ensure that communities in Europe and beyond feel the benefits of new technologies”.

The Meteosat Third Generation Imager produces photographs with higher resolution and more frequently than second generation satellites. They allow weather forecasts to be more precise, detailing the evolution of the weather in the area.

“The high resolution and frequent repeat cycle of the Flexible Combined Imager They will greatly help the World Meteorological Organization community,” he says. Natalia Donoho, Head of the Space Systems and Utilization Division of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

“It will improve severe weather forecasting, long-term climate monitoring, marine applications, agricultural meteorology and will make an important contribution to early warnings for all”, added.
