Enel X competed jointly with the local operator Dinamismo Urbano del Norte, which will be in charge of managing the bus fleet for 15 years
With an investment of more than 11 million dollars, Enel X Mexico was the winner in the contest to install and operate 21 electric buses and 12 smart charging stations; including the electrical interconnection infrastructure, for the Exposición-Pablo Livas de metroreyone of the first electric mass transit lines in the state of New Lion.
The company tendered jointly with the local operator Urban Dynamism of the North; which will be in charge of managing the bus fleet for 15 years.
In this regard, José Luis Navarro, Country Manager of Enel México, indicated:
“At Enel México we continue working to generate long-term value for the country and its citizens. That is why we decided that we not only wanted to help by generating 100% renewable and accessible energy, but that we also want the benefits of that clean and cheap electricity to be enjoyed by everyone.
The electrification of public transport achieves precisely that: that citizens can directly take advantage of the energy transition. This project in Monterrey, along with those already underway in Mexico City, place Enel X as the main benchmark for these solutions in the country.”
The electric buses will be state-of-the-art high-floor buses with a range of 280 km, and the smart charging stations will be supplied by Enel X Way; to reach an installed capacity of 2.5 MW in the shelter yard of the Exposición-Pablo Livas route of Metrorrey.
This will contribute to reducing the carbon footprint of public transport in the entity, in addition to saving more than 80% of the cost of energy thanks to the substitution of fossil fuels for electricity, thus promoting sustainable public transport, the basis of the urban mobility and the fight against global warming.
The process of electrifying public transport goes beyond replacing buses that run on fossil fuels; it is important to carry out a sustainable project in which the charging stations use clean energy. For this reason, the installation of photovoltaic panels in the recharging yard itself is considered.
The project is aligned with the Master Plan for Joint Responsibility for Air Quality; promoted by the government of Nuevo León with the participation of the public, private and citizen sectors.
With this investment, the electric bus fast charging yard will become one of the largest in Nuevo León and in the country; at the level of other projects such as the Metrobús in Mexico City, also supplied by Enel X. Both are characterized by having technology that optimizes the use of vehicle batteries and extends their useful life.
With these projects, the company consolidates the Enel X business line in Mexico and leads the way towards sustainable electrification in the country.
