Closing the digital gap, both in Spain and globally, requires high involvement, both by companies and by the AA.PP. In relation to it, HP has announced its collaboration with the non-profit association DreamIT.

The company has made a donation of more than 120 monitors that will be used in two projects aimed at improving education and the social and labor insertion of young people and women entrepreneurs in vulnerable situations.

“Digital equity is one of HP’s pillars in its commitment to sustainability. For this reason, in 2020 the company set itself the goal of accelerating digital equity for 150 million people by 2030,” says Inés Bermejo, CEO of HP Iberia.

In collaboration with the La Kalle Foundation, located in the Vallecas neighborhood in Madrid, one of the projects that will receive the donated monitors has been developed. The second project consists of the distribution of equipment to various schools, public libraries and training centers in Equatorial Guinea.

Both initiatives seek to improve job opportunities through training related to the social economy and promote the reuse of materials through environmental awareness programs and campaigns.

In addition, these projects will contribute to the personal and social development of the participants, especially those who are in a situation of exclusion.

reduce the digital divide

Since its foundation in 2015, DreamIT has been dedicated to promoting access to ICT through a sustainable business model based on the circular economy. To achieve this, the association focuses on the reuse of hardware and the application of free software.

The commitment of companies like HP makes it possible to give equipment a second life and create a new value chain that encompasses economic, social and environmental aspects. In this way, HP maintains its commitment to reduce the digital divide, promote technological access for all and support education through technology.

“Collaboration agreements with companies as important as HP and which understand sustainability and the social and circular economy so well, make it possible for us to expand our educational projects to many more countries and groups”, concludes Mona Biegstraaten, Founder of the NGO DreamIT.
