My pulse does not tremble to admit that R-Type is by far my favorite series. of the shooters of ships of horizontal disposition or side scroll. Rarely is the occasion where when I get a chance to play one of the many retro slot options, I don’t end up dying in one of the first titles in this long-running and popular series. This reason leads me to approach each new release with fear and a certain suspicion, fearing that new iterations may damage my memory.
On this occasion we have the opportunity to welcome R-Type Final 3 Evolved that comes to us from the hands of Granzella, who, with the participation of former members of Irem, wanted to expand and continue the previous version of this saga. R-Type Final 3 Evolved it is not a new and independent title but a continuation that reaches such an extent that the system itself offers us the possibility of importing the data saved from the previous version.
The new sequel to Irem’s classic shooter has remained faithful to the bases that have always defined the series. The levels take place in a side scrolling scenario. There will be plenty of final bosses to face, battles that we can carry out accompanied by the always charismatic and iconic “ball” , or force, which docks with our ship. Accompanying our ball, the different power-ups will continue to allow us to increase the attack possibilities of our ship, with multiple shots, bombs, lasers and all kinds of wonders of light, explosion and damage. So, the heart and soul of this saga is still respected which is not little.

Unreal Engine 5 gives heart, but not soul to this title
The updated version of R-Type Final Evolved offers us a wide selection of ships with different characteristics, weapons and customization options. At a technical level it includes a colorful 3D graphic finish made with Unreal Engine 5, which personally, I am not just excited about. Gone, far behind, was the pixel art aspect, to continue along this graphic path, which although it is very visual -special mention to the light effects- is still a step below the magnificence offered by the pixel and that I keep longing for this beloved saga. Mention highlighted its sound effects and successful melodies that will accompany our forays.
Although R-Type Final 3 Evolved builds on its predecessor, Granzella’s team has added numerous innovations to make it unique . For example, the creator of the game, Kazuma Kujo, has added seven new stages in addition to those of the original title, as well as those that were part of the Stage Pass 1 DLC, adding a total of more than twenty levels with different levels of difficulty, which is impressive for a shooter of this type.
The respected repertoire of levels is accompanied by the numerous aircraft that will allow us to cross the extraterrestrial skies. Over a hundred unlockable models with a multitude of Forces (why not continue calling it “ball”?) that will allow us to customize our ship, choosing color, appearance, etc.

In addition, the classic individual mode R-Type Final 3 Evolved offers us an online multiplayer mode , the Competition mode, which will allow us to fight to improve our scores and reach the best world milestones, with online Rankings. In addition, we will have rooms to interact with other players and participate in certain mini-games.
Definitely…
We are closing, concluding that this R-Type Final 3 Evolved even being continuous and devoid of great surprises, fans of the genre will like it with a title that is enjoyed and that allows a genre to be kept alive that, to this day, still has a respectable legion of followers.
