Amazon Games Developing a New Lord of the Rings Game

Those responsible for New Worlds are already working on an MMO of The Lord of the Rings
A massive open world title with the stories of JRR Tolkien’s novels

Amazon Games and Embracer Group (through its subsidiary Middle-earth Enterprises) today announced an agreement for Amazon Games to develop and publish a new MMO based on The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien. It will be a persistent open world adventure MMO (massively multiplayer online game) set in Middle-earth and will feature the beloved stories of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings book trilogy.

The game is in the early stages of production, led by Amazon Games (Orange County), developers of the popular open-world MMO New World. Amazon Games will publish the game worldwide for PC and consoles. The rest of the details, including the release date, will be known in the future. “We are committed to bringing gamers the highest quality games, both from original franchises and beloved ones like The Lord of the rings“, has said Christoph Hartmann, Vice President of Amazon Games.

the new game of The Lord of the rings as yet untitled, continues Amazon Games’ growth momentum for game publishing and development, following the success of its in-house developed MMO New World and action RPG lost ark from Smilegate RPG. Both games have reached top positions on Steam and Twitch and continue to nurture strong player communities. Amazon has also announced publishing agreements with NCSOFT for throne and libertyBandai Namco Online for Blue ProtocolCrystal Dynamics for the next great game of tomb Raider and Glowmade and Disruptive Games for games yet to be announced.
