Adobe stands up to Midjourney and DALL-E 2: this is how Adobe Firefly is born, its new image-generative AI
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Adobe has decided to enter the game of Artificial Intelligence and has done so with Adobe Firefly. What game are we referring to? To that of artificial intelligence models to generate images. Yes, Adobe Firefly is a clear answer to DALL-E and Midjourney. Of course, it comes from the hand of a prestigious audiovisual software company.

Adobe’s jump into the AI pool has been completely anti-climactic, in fact there hasn’t been much talk about smart features that can be integrated into Photoshop and solve different tasks. Now with Adobe Firefly what is intended is to compete face to face with the rest of the generative AIs.

How does Adobe Firefly work? This new model of generative AI has been augmented with a huge number of examples and different parameters that are intended to provide intelligence to this AI. Where does this information come from? Adobe has indicated that open license data has been used to get rid of authorship issues.

It doesn’t sit well that these generative models of images use content created by artists without their consent and, in fact, there have already been and are complaints on social networks about this situation. Although it will still be necessary to see how it is legislated since the copyright of works made by AI is a topic that is being explored.

Adobe Firefly: this is Adobe’s new artificial intelligence to generate images

Of course, Adobe Firefly is not without controversy. Adobe has used royalty-free works, although it has also used images that have been uploaded to AdobeStock. What does this mean? That works of authors who have voluntarily uploaded their work to Adobe Stock have been used and that Adobe has used to train the AI.

Adobe has indicated that it is working on a compensation model for those authors of works that have served to train the AI, although in the case of not wanting to participate in the AI training, it will have to be selected individually in the account Adobe Stock that the uploaded images should not be used for this purpose.

At a general level, Adobe Stock works similarly to that already seen in DALL-E or Midjourney. What you have to do is write a description as detailed as possible so that the AI can generate an image. In case you want to try Adobe Firefly, what you will have to do is sign up for the waiting list.
